CholesTrak® HDL and Total Cholesterol Test
HDL cholesterol is known as “good” cholesterol. About one-fourth to one-third of blood cholesterol is carried by high-density lipoprotein (HDL). High levels of HDL seem to protect against heart attack. Low levels of HDL (less than 40 mg/dL) also increase the risk of heart disease. Medical experts think that HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Some experts believe that HDL removes excess cholesterol from arterial plaque, slowing its buildup.
CholesTrak® HDL Cholesterol Test allows you to quickly find out your HDL level in the comfort of your own home whenever and wherever you prefer. With your total cholesterol result and your HDL result, you can calculate your Cardio Heart Disease (CHD) Risk factor. To get your CHD Risk factor, you simply divide your Total Cholesterol level by your HDL level. This risk factor is the most effective marker to assess your heart disease risk used worldwide.
