Heart Diseases in Women

Cardio Hear Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in America. According to the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA), CHD kills more American than any other diseases. AMWA estimates that close to 500,000 women will die this year as a result of cardiovascular complications. This number is nearly twice as many as all cancer deaths combined, making CHD the leading cause of death in women.

It is important that women know their cholesterol levels as they age. Cholesterol levels increase with age. Women in their post-menopausal stage of life generally have higher cholesterol levels comparing to their pre-menopausal cholesterol levels. This means that their heart disease risk has also increased.

Between the ages of 45 and 64 years, 1 out of 5 women will die of a heart attack. By age 65+, as many as 1 in 3 will be stricken by the disease. Bacause the symptons for the onset of a heart attack or stroke for women are different from the symptons for men, the onset of a heart attack or stroke in women has been frequently misdiagnosed as other less severe conditions.
